When talking to the Auctioneer NPC, select the "Bids" tab to see the current status of the items you are bidding on. The "Auctions" tab will tell you the current status of any items you have placed up for purchase on the auction house.
You will also receive a yellow text message in your chat window letting you know if you were outbid or if you have won an auction regardless of where you are in the game. Remember that when you are outbid on an auction, your bid money is sent back to you via the in-game mail system.
