Enchanting is a primary trade skill in the World of Warcraft. Because it is a primary profession, the player who chooses enchanting as one of his primary trade skills should do so with care, as a player can only know two primary professions at any given time. A gathering trade skill is not needed to support enchanting and materials for the enchanting profession are obtained by disenchanting items.
Players may choose a good money making second primary profession skill such as skinning or mining. The services of enchanters are in high demand in the World of Warcraft because enchanters can add permanent stat boosts to many items.
Getting Started in the Enchanting Trade Skill
The player who wishes to learn any trade skill in the World of Warcraft will start by visiting the appropriate type of trainer. Beginning trainers for all professions in the game can be found in the capital city for each race. Once a player picks up the enchanting skill, two buttons will appear in his spell book. The first button is used to disenchant magical items which must be green, blue or purple in color, and the second is used add stat boosts onto existing items.
The apprentice level lets a player gain skill ups to 75 when he must learn journeyman. Every 75 levels of skill increase thereafter, a player must go back to a trainer to increase his enchanting skill.
Green items will result in the fewest number of shards when disenchanted, blue items with a slightly higher number, and purple items should a World of Warcraft player choose to disenchant them will result in the highest amount of reagents for enchanting other items.
Working with the Enchanting Skill in the World of Warcraft
Disenchanting magical items yields the materials needed for the skill and will be the primary method by which a player will gain enchanting skill ups. The skill is useful to other players because the reagents can be used to add specific stat boosts depending on the type of disenchant to the other player. In order to do this, a player or the enchanter must initiate a trade and the player with the item to be enchanted will put it in the will not be traded box of the trade menu.¡±
In order to perform any enchantment in the World of Warcraft, the player with the enchanting skill must have an enchanting rod of the appropriate type already in his inventory. Provided the enchanter has the materials needed for the type of enchant, he will bring up the abilities button, select the formula for the requested enchantment and hit trade on the item. The process is similar for items the enchanter wishes to boost, but the trade window will not open.

While an item can be enchanted multiple times with this trade skill, only one enhancement can be active at a time. A new enchantment overwrites a previous one and the person receiving the enchantment will be asked to accept or deny it on their item. Loot that has enhancement bonuses or is imbued can also be enchanted and the bonus will stack.
