The Trooper is one of the four Galactic Republic-aligned playable classes. They start on the planet of Ord Mantell. Famous Troopers include Harron Tavus and Jace Malcom.
Honor, Duty, Defense of the Republic
Not all heroes carry Lightsabers. Some just have the will to fight.
For decades, the armed forces of the Galactic Republic defended their civilization against the seemingly unstoppable Sith Empire. Despite countless setbacks, the men and women of the Republic military never backed down until the Senate ordered them to do so. These brave souls remain ready and willing to lay their lives on the line today.
In the wake of the Treaty of Coruscant, the Republic military has begun recruiting from within its own ranks, creating cutting-edge Special Forces squads for the inevitable day when the war with the Sith Empire begins anew. These advanced strike teams are comprised of only the most talented and disciplined soldiers—a new breed of elite Republic Troopers.
These Troopers are the embodiment of the Republic military’s highest aspirations—the most advanced fighting force in the galaxy. They are equipped to face any foe in any environment, but it’s not their gear that makes them tough—it’s their guts. The Troopers’ greatest weapons are their indomitable spirit, their unwavering sense of duty and their undying loyalty to each other and to the ideals that the Republic represents. In this age, the stakes have never been higher. The Republic must win or face extinction. The fate of the galaxy rests upon ordinary men becoming extraordinary heroes. This is the path of the Republic Trooper.
Relations with the Jedi
The Knights of the Jedi Order have defended the Republic for generations, but they have not fought alone. A host of unsung heroes have marched at the Jedi’s side—common men courageous enough to enlist and face the same risks as their Jedi comrades despite not having access to the Jedi powers of protection. These heroes have not gone unappreciated by the Jedi. The men and women of the Republic military are accorded complete respect and admiration by the Order and by the Republic’s political leaders.
In the years since the Treaty of Coruscant, the Jedi have withdrawn in significant numbers to their homeworld of Tython. Their presence in the Republic military, though still significant, is not what it was during the war. In many ways, the Republic’s newly-trained elite Troopers have stepped up to take charge of the Republic’s defenses. When Troopers are partnered with the Jedi, they are a force to be reckoned with on any battlefield.
Field Reconnaissance
Deployed to the hairiest battlefields in the galaxy, Republic Troopers generally travel in small, specialized squads. It is not uncommon, however, to see a Trooper engaging enemies on his or her own. Whether operating solo or in groups, members of the Republic Special Forces have become intimidating opponents to their enemies.
Outfitting
The Republic’s experiments with a new generation of heavy blaster rifles have proven successful, sparking a galaxy-wide trend towards larger, more powerful and more versatile armaments. It takes a great deal of strength and training, however, to wield these war machines, so they’re rarely used outside the military. Republic engineers have also worked overtime fashioning new defensive gear for the Republic’s most elite soldiers, armor suits that provide maximum protection and flexibility in multiple environments.
Combat Tactics
Whether fighting as part of a small strike squad or at the forefront of a larger force, the Trooper can unleash unrivaled firepower against his enemies. A Trooper’s rifle is his best friend, and the military is constantly challenged to design faster, more powerful and more reliable blaster rifles every year. Wielding such rifles and wearing protective battle armor designed by the Republic’s top engineers, the Trooper will not hesitate to step right into the crossfire. Whether storming a base or a battlefield, the Trooper charges into the fight, blaster-rifle blazing, to clear a path for freedom and justice.
Though the Trooper’s tactical strengths tend to rely on ranged technology and superior firepower, standard training involves lengthy exercises in close-quarters combat. A slam to the face from a cortosis-reinforced rifle stock is a very effective melee maneuver. In addition to the arsenal of attacks available to the Trooper using his rifle, standard Trooper equipment often includes a number of sticky grenades. Nearly impossible to remove, these explosives unerringly dispose of the target and anyone standing nearby. Taking full advantage of the modern rifle’s versatile attachments, the Trooper can launch a high-powered grenade that explodes on impact, incapacitating a single target.
Below is a table that shows the companions available to the Trooper and what gifts they like. "XXX" denotes a favorite gift (major rewards). "XX" denotes a lovable gift (medium reward). "X" denotes a likable gift (minor rewards). "O" denotes no likability (no reward).

The Trooper serves as the vanguard of Republic might and firepower in SWTOR. However, it takes more than bravery, weapons, or armor to survive the perilous front lines of galactic combat, which is where the Trooper's companions come into play. During the course of his (or her) adventures, the Trooper, like every other class in SWTOR, will acquire five companions to accompany him and aid him in his journey. Each companion has their own unique role and has their own specific strengths and weaknesses. It is up to the player to decide on which companion to use with your Trooper depending upon the situation and your playstyle. To that end, we've put together a complete guide to the Trooper's companions, including their crew skill bonuses, combat acumen, and likes and dislikes.
Companions are a vital and necessary component of SWTOR, providing many benefits for all the classes within the game. The Trooper is always on the front line of battle, putting himself in harm's way to support the Republic, so it's good to have someone there to watch your six. Some companions will be more useful than others depending upon the situation. The most obvious benefit of companions is in combat. Some companions are good at healing the Trooper, keeping him in the fight longer. Other companions can put out a tremendous amount of damage, helping to make sure that the enemies of the Republic in SWTOR fall like wheat before a scythe. Then there are those companions who are good at tanking, generating threat and keeping aggro of the Trooper and onto themselves.
There are other benefits that companions provide to the Trooper in SWTOR. One nice ability that they have is to sell your gray items (vendor trash) so you don't waste time trudging back to the nearest trading post to sell your items. Why waste time travelling when you can be mowing down enemies with your assault cannon? Another way companions can free up time for the Trooper is by crafting items. The Trooper can continue questing while his companions craft various gear for him. Players can send their companions out on various missions to gather crafting materials or gifts to increase their affection for the Trooper. Lastly, companions provide some much needed social interaction with the Trooper onboard your personal ship, and, if the Trooper is lucky, some romance may result of such "interaction".
As the Trooper gathers companions from the various worlds in SWTOR, he'll find that while they come equipped, their gear selection will need to be kept up-to-date. The Sith Empire is a harsh, unforgiving enemy, and the Trooper needs every edge he can get to stay alive. A fully equipped, up-to-date companion is just what the medical droid ordered. Companions do not normally come equipped with ear pieces, implants, or helmets, so requisition them as quickly as you can.
As with every other class in SWTOR, the Trooper can only have one active companion with them at a time. The other companions will reside onboard the Trooper's ship, racking out and eating his chow. A companion will "desummon" if a group has more than three players as that companions count towards the cap limit of a party. In addition, companions do not accompany Troopers into warzones. You're on your own there, my friend.
Tip: Don’t be afraid to hit ESC to leave a conversation if you’re making choices that anger your companion. If you’re willing to redo the conversation a few times, you can maximize your companion’s affection potential from that conversation.
Aric Jorgan is the first companion that a Trooper will acquire in SWTOR and is found on Ord Mantell. This Cathar male serves as ranged DPS in combat. While he is more useful to a Trooper Vanguard than a Trooper Commando, Aric Jorgan is still a good fit for the Trooper at lower levels, no matter what the advanced class. His firepower will help bring enemies down quickly. You can give Aric Jorgan your cast-off armor to wear as he wears heavy armor and Aim is his main attribute if you want to save a few credits.
Despite his stern demeanor, Aric Jorgan has a surprising Light Side nature. He is one of the Republic's finest field officers, and is highly respected by those who serve under him, despite his stern, brooding manner. He has served the Republic faithfully for a long time and is a career soldier. Sadly, he'll join the Trooper after being used as a scapegoat for the treason of Havoc Squad.
Aric Jorgan is a soldier, through and through, which is reflected in his dour demeanor. He is a very serious person. In conversation, he prefers choices that reflect duty, the Republic military, efficiency, and honesty. He disapproves of choices that include excuses, failure, and callous sacrifices. Aric Jorgan is a romance option for female Troopers. Hint: cat-nip drives him crazy!
Planet: Ord Mantell
Armor: Heavy
Main Weapon: Assault Cannon
Main Attribute: Aim
Crew Skills: Armstech (+10 Efficiency), Diplomacy (+2 Critical)
Companion Gifts:
Elara Dorne is the second companion that a Trooper will acquire in SWTOR and she is found on the planet Taris. In combat, she fills the role of healer. While healers are more useful to a Trooper Vanguard due to their tanking nature, she is still useful to a Trooper Commando. Personally, I never turn down extra healing. She is capable of doing ranged DPS to some extent, but her healing is her main function. She can also do some crowd control with her Carbonized Steam ability, which will trap a target for eight seconds. Just like Aric Jorgan, you can give her your cast-off armor to wear as she wears heavy armor and uses Aim as her main stat.
Elara Dorne war born an Imperial, but defected to the Republic after serving two years in their military as a field medic. She is a brave person, risking life and limb to save injured soldiers on the battlefield, and she has a spotless record. However, she is not well-liked as that many consider her rigid and cold. Despite this view of her, she is a good person at heart.
When making choices within the game, Elara Dorne likes choices that reflect selflessness, following rules, and propriety. She abhors decisions that reflect corruption and unnecessary violence. Elara Dorne is a romance option for male Troopers.
Planet: Taris
Armor: Heavy
Main Weapon: Blaster Pistol
Main Attribute: Aim
Crew Skills: Biochem (+10 Efficiency), Bioanalysis (+10 Efficiency)
Companion Gifts:
M1-4X is the fourth companion that will join the Trooper in SWTOR and is found on Nar Shaddaa. In combat, this powerful droid functions as a ranged tank. Being a tank, he is of more use to a Trooper Commando as opposed to a Trooper Vanguard. He goes a great job of drawing aggro onto himself by using abilities such as Flaregun, Sonic Rocket, and Sentry Process.
M1-4X is a hoot during conversations. He was built specifically to serve in Havoc Squad and is programmed to be the perfect soldier. He is a true Republic zealot and is incredibly extreme to his devotion to all things Republic. M1-4X will go to any lengths to destroy the enemies of the Republic. His construction is highly advanced and his power core has capabilities far beyond anything else currently available.
For conversation choices, M1-4X likes choices that reflect courage, destroying the Republic's enemies, and pro-Republic statements. He is not a fan of selections that include anything going against the Republic's goals.
Planet: Nar Shaddaa
Armor: Droid/Heavy
Main Weapon: Blaster Rifle
Main Attribute: Aim
Crew Skills: Scavenging (+5 Critical), Cybertech (+5 Efficiency)
Companion Gifts:
Tanno Vik is the fourth companion that will join the Trooper in SWTOR and is found on Balmorra. In combat, he fills the role of a melee tank. Just like M1-4X, he's a better fit for a Trooper Commando as they're more DPS than a Trooper Vanguard. Tanno Vik generates a lot of threat and keeps aggro off the player by using abilities such as Flaregun, Taunt, and Guard Stance.
Tanno Vik was born on Nar Shaddaa and became a selfish criminal to survive. He eventually joined the Republic military to escape Nar Shaddaa and became a talented explosives expert. However, his bad attitude, disregard for authority, and criminal complaints eventually got him discharged.
Tanno Vik's personality is rather more Dark Side than the other Trooper companions. He likes it when the player makes choices that include mocking authority and others, blowing things up, and mercenary behavior. He dislikes decisions that reflect self-sacrifice and kindness. He's a good choice if your Trooper is going full-on Dark Side.
Planet: Balmorra
Armor: Heavy
Main Weapon: Techblade
Main Attribute: Aim
Crew Skills: Armormech (+5 Critical), Underworld Trading (+1 Critical)
Companion Gifts:
Sergeant Yuun is the final companion that will join the Trooper in SWTOR and will be found on Hoth. He fills the role of melee DPS in combat. He leaps into combat with his Charge ability and then lays out a ton of damage using abilities such as Perforation, Power Strikes, and Exsanguination.
Sergeant Yuun is considered eccentric by his fellow Republic soldiers, but he is respected by his peers for his abilities. He is a shamanistic tracker that applies his abilities to whatever technical tasks are assigned to him. He has an unmatched success record by using these methods, but such methods are not fully understood by others. Overall, Sergeant Yuun has an upbeat and calm personality and approves of decisions that reflect self-restraint, patience, and respect for other people and their beliefs. He does not like it when the player chooses chaos, rudeness, bragging, unnecessary violence, and bragging.
Planet: Hoth
rmor: Heavy
Main Weapon: Electrostaff
Main Attribute: Aim
Crew Skills: Investigation (+10 Efficiency), Slicing (+10 Efficiency)
